Kael Drakar

Where gods whisper and empires rot.

Title: Centurion of the XIV Legion • The Persistent Flame
Race: Human
Origin: Drak’s Hollow, Caltheronian Empire
Affiliations: XIV Imperial Legion, Caltheronian Army
Status: Alive (active in the Northern campaign)

History and Formation

Kael Drakar was born in Drak’s Hollow, a poor village overshadowed by imperial fortresses. Son of an alcoholic and abusive father and a mother who endured silent suffering, Kael grew up in an environment where silence was crueler than punishment. With few prospects, he enlisted in the Imperial Army as a way to pay off the debts left by his father.

It was within the XIV Legion that Kael began his transformation. Under the brutal command of Brak “Ironfist”, the young man learned not only to survive, but to harden. He survived campaigns in the desert of Rakkesh and the Empire’s borderlands, earning renown for his lethal efficiency, cold strategy, and silent leadership.

Personality

Kael is introspective, reserved, and pragmatic. He rarely allows himself to feel or show emotion—not out of weakness, but as a conscious choice. He carries pain as a weapon and trauma as armor. His sense of justice has been deformed by unjust battles and merciless decisions. The motto he lives by—“Peace through strength. Order through sacrifice.”—summarizes his worldview.

Despite his hardness, Kael is not cruel. He values the lives of the innocent and those who fight beside him. His suffering has made him empathetic, though not merciful. He leads by example, shouldering the weight of war so others don’t have to.

Role in the Story

Kael is one of the central pillars of the Astravara narrative. His story is told in the arc “Blood and Duty”, which chronicles his rise from disillusioned recruit to legendary centurion. Throughout the unfolding events, Kael will be forced to face not only the Empire’s enemies, but the very Empire that shaped him.

He will become a key figure in the conflicts of the North, facing supernatural threats, barbarian forces, and moral dilemmas that will challenge whether his flame exists to protect… or to consume.

Legacy

Known as “The Persistent Flame” by his soldiers, Kael Drakar has become a living symbol of the Caltheronian ideal: discipline, sacrifice, and strength. Yet behind the scenes, there are whispers that this flame no longer illuminates—it only burns.

Kael’s future will not be determined by military victories, but by his ability to rediscover what remains of his humanity. If he fails, he will be remembered as a cold legend. But if he prevails, he may ignite a new path for an empire swallowed by shadows.
