Arahllien – The Veiled Isle of the Aetheryni — A Hidden Sanctuary of Magic and Memory

Where gods whisper and empires rot.

Name: Arahllien

Type: Hidden magical island

Region: Off the coast of Caltheron

Capital: Elaris’Vareth, the Hidden Heart

Race: Halflings (Aetheryni, “The Everlasting” in their own tongue)

GEOGRAPHY & STRUCTURE

Arahllien is invisible to mortal eyes, veiled in illusion and ancient spells. The island contains:

  • Enchanted Forests – magical barrier that shifts paths and memory
  • The Sacred Tree – a sentient, immortal entity that grants the Halflings their resurrection and spiritual unity
  • Elaris’Vareth – built in harmony with nature, it is the cultural, magical, and spiritual capital of the Halflings
  • Havenhill – a small human village on the island’s edge, unaware of the Halfling presence
  • Tharivien – minor human port that trades wood and fish, subtly manipulated by Halfling magic

CULTURE & BELIEFS

Spiritual Core

Halflings live by a philosophy of balance, renewal, and preservation.

  • The Sacred Tree serves as both spiritual guardian and source of their immortality
  • When a Halfling dies, their body regenerates over decades within the tree
  • Their society prizes wisdom, magic, pacifism, and collective memory

Religion

  • Worship Magistus Veraael (God of Truth and Magic) and Tenebris Nocthian (God of Secrets and Night)
  • Reject daemonism and all corruptive magic
  • Maintain rituals of seasonal harmony, dream-sharing, and life-feast remembrance

POLITICAL & SOCIAL STRUCTURE

  • Governed by a Popular Council — all citizens may speak and vote
  • Decisions are slow due to their long lives and patient mindset
  • Disagreements are resolved through debate, memory-runes, or ritual games
  • Emphasis on preservation over progress, but a growing internal faction calls for change

Factions:

  • The Traditionalists – advocate total isolation, led by elder Erlin Faethor
  • The Renewers – push for active defense and diplomacy, led by Lorien Thariviel, a young reformist visionary

MAGIC & RITUAL

  • Masters of natural sorcery, illusion, enchantment, and life-magic
  • Every Halfling is connected to the Sacred Tree, and thus to each other
  • Can resurrect over time, unless destroyed by necromancy, soul curses, or starvation
  • Strong innate resistance to aging, diseases, and mental intrusion
  • Magical tattoos act as memory markers and emotional stabilizers

DEFENSES & THREATS

Though pacifists, the Halflings are well-protected:

  • Forest traps, illusion fields, non-lethal wards, and confusion glyphs defend the island
  • Goblins (corrupted Halflings) often seek them for sacrifice
  • Human hunters and cultists believe their blood grants eternal youth
  • Tensions with human woodcutters and expansionists are rising
