Divine Biography

Tenebris Noctian was born from the first shadow cast by the First Flame, the echo that lingered when the Creator turned away. Where others sought to define truth, Tenebris embraced what cannot be defined — not out of deceit, but out of the sacred nature of mystery.

He is not the god of evil nor the architect of corruption. He is the guardian of truth too vast, too dangerous, or too early to be known. In every faith that recognizes his existence, he is both the protector of secrets and the guide through them.

During the Celestial War, Tenebris was one of the only deities who did not take a side openly. He whispered to both, shielded innocents in shadows, and pulled knowledge out of the hands of gods who would abuse it. Some say he aided Elyonel. Others claim he secretly protected Virekos before his fall. All agree on one thing: nothing about Tenebris is ever truly certain.

To the dark elves, he is the First Watcher, the god who gave them autonomy, patience, and the strength to survive exile and persecution.

Nature and Appearance

Tenebris manifests most often as a dark elven figure, tall, regal, and draped in robes of shadow woven with stars. His skin is ash-gray, his eyes a burning crimson or radiant gold, and his voice a whisper just at the edge of understanding.

Sometimes he appears faceless. Other times, his expression reflects the observer’s fears or hopes. He walks with neither haste nor hesitation, his presence like a chill wind in a silent library.

He does not impose. He invites.

Cults and Worship

His followers do not preach — they preserve, observe, and guide in silence. Temples to Tenebris are rare and hidden, often built in ancient caves, deep ruins, or starless sanctums. Rituals include:

  • The Vigil of Shadows: meditative silence before a black flame
  • The Turning of the Veil: symbolic revelation of a personal truth kept hidden
  • The Rite of Eclipse: to bind or protect forbidden knowledge

To worship Tenebris is to accept that ignorance is not always safe, and knowledge not always good — but both are necessary for growth.

Legacy in Astravara

Tenebris Noctian is loved by those who have been cast out, misunderstood, or used for the truths they carry. He is the sacred shadow, the space between Elyonel’s blinding radiance and Virekos’s chaos.

To the surface world, his name evokes unease. But to those who walk between worlds — seers, nightwalkers, secret keepers — his name is comfort.

In the Codex of the Dawnfall, it is said:

“In the end, it is not the light that saves you… but what you learned in the dark.”
